Project Overview
This project formed part of the Parramatta Light Rail Project Stage 1, which is one of NSW Governments latest major infrastructure projects. A two-way track, spanning 12km connecting Westmead to Carlingford via Parramatta central business district and Camellia. The completion of Stage 1 will enable the trains to start running their commissioning phase. Construction of the Stabling and Maintenance Facility commenced in December 2021.
Ferrycarrig was engaged by Laing O’ Rourke to deliver an early works package which included earthworks, construction of haul roads, installation of blockwork retaining walls, and foundations for communications and lighting. Building on this foundation, Ferrycarrig was awarded additional contracts for drainage, hydraulics, electrical, and communication networks. The Ferrycarrig team also managed contamination and remediation works, and completed finishing roadworks for the facility.
Ferrycarrig’s scope of works comprised of the following:
- Construction of haul roads, spur roads and hardstand areas
- Residual bulk earthworks
- Operation, management and compaction of the stockpile area
- Installation of new blockwork retaining walls
- Sitewide lighting footings
- Supply and install drainage network
- Supply and install combined services route (CSR) network
- Installation of utilities within contaminated ground, where portions of works were carried out under asbestos supervision
- Construction of internal all roads and pavements (asphalt and concrete) including line marking, bollards and signage all to TFNSW and Rail specifications
A project of this scale and complexity presents numerous challenges, especially during the design development phase, where new drawings and documentation arrive regularly. Ferrycarrig assembled a highly skilled team of in-house engineers and surveyors to respond to these challenges. Their expertise was instrumental in identifying and resolving design issues such as service clashes.
The successful completion of this project was made possible by the unwavering dedication of our Project Team. Led by our Senior Project Manager, Manuel Galvez, his engineering team and grounds crews, we maintained close collaboration with our client throughout. This collaborative effort ensured that every project challenge was met with innovative solutions and effective management.
