Project Overview
An Alliance Design and Construct project team has been formed to complete Stage 1 of the Mulgoa Road upgrade between Jeanette Street at Regentville and Blaikie Road at Jamisontown. The project is the first scheme to be progressed following the 2015 announcement to upgrade the Mulgoa Road/Castlereagh Road corridor with more stages to be released in the coming years.
The Stage 1 project includes a 1.2-kilometre section to be upgraded to a six-lanes divided road (three lanes in each direction) with median separation and upgrades to the existing M4 Smart Motorway ramps. Ferrycarrig has been contracted by Seymour Whyte to complete service relocations as part of Stage 1.
Ferrycarrig’s scope of work encompasses the relocation of sewer and potable water pipes, including associated pits and fittings, to accommodate the widening of Mulgoa Road. These relocations involve water pipes ranging from 100mm to 315mm in diameter, sewer pipes ranging from 225mm for gravity sewer to 500mm for pressurized sewer. Additionally, the scope includes under bore installations, relining works, and manhole constructions.
The major components of Ferrycarrig’s works comprises of the following:
- 1 x 225m HDD bore with para track system under the M4
- 4 x 55m laser bores under Mulgoa Road
- 1.3 km of trenches for potable water
- 20 different sections of potable water to be commissioned on stages
- 0.2 km of trenches for new sewer pipes and encasement of existing
pipes - 0.2 kms of relining works, with an optional of another 0.2 km
- 350 m of dual 500mm Pressurized sewer pipe install
- 0.7 km of grout fill redundant pipes
Key project challenges include, but not limited to, effectively interfacing with other subcontractors, managing traffic aspects and community impact, coordinating simultaneous work fronts and under-boring across major intersections. Ferrycarrig has supplied an experienced team of staff to manage these challenges effectively.
